• The selected materials and modern manufacturing methods, e.g. computer cutting, high-frequency welded cover seams, guarantee the long service life of this convertible top for the Golf 3.

  The side reinforcements above the doors are welded, these seams are not visible from the outside.

Things to know about the Golf 3

The Golf 3 convertible top essentially consists of four parts. With this article you are only buying the outer skin.

1. The soft top linkage.
2. The headliner.
3. The intermediate mat.
4. The outer skin.

The Golf 3 convertible top linkage is widely regarded as indestructible.

A workshop cannot repair such a Golf 3 convertible top linkage. It can be derusted and greased, but hardly straightened.

If necessary, the headliner of the Golf 3 convertible top should be replaced when the top is changed, as it is attached from above under the top mat. It is very difficult or even impossible to replace it in the second step after replacing the soft top.

The intermediate mat, also known as the upholstery mat or insulating mat, is made of rubberized fibres in the original Golf 3 convertible top. It is better to install the Dralon mat used in later convertibles without any disadvantages. The new material was certainly not chosen without reason. This upholstery mat is wrapped in a cloth and is fixed to the Golf 3 convertible top linkage.

The outer skin is the part of the Golf 3 convertible top that is visible from the outside.
This can be fitted in PVC or the high-quality Dralon convertible top fabric.

We mainly offer the soft top fabric as it costs only a little more and looks better than the plastic surface.


 

The Golf 3 models were built from 1993 onwards.
From 1998, the Golf 4 model was offered, which differs only by a modified
front and rear section.

This Golf 3 Cabrio model was produced until 2002 in the remarkable number of approx. 171,000 units.

The use of the tarpaulin is no longer mandatory for the Golf 3.
Except for the last few years, the Golf 3 Cabrio soft top was only produced in PVC soft top fabric.
We offer the Golf 3 convertible top mainly in convertible top fabric.

Until 2002, all generations of the Golf Cabrio were manufactured by the Karmann company in Osnabrück,
. This company is now defunct after going bankrupt.
There is no direct successor company to Karmann soft tops.
The soft top division was taken over by the Finnish company Valmet in 2010
and continued in Osnabrück, but not under the Karmann name.
The discontinuation of this production has been announced.
There is no longer a Karmann soft top manufacturer in Osnabrück,
even if a soft top retrofitter in Osnabrück wants to give this impression.

The Golf 3 Cabriolet is still a very popular convertible today.
